Your Newborn Session Guide

The newborn days are precious and fleeting, filled with quiet moments, tiny details, and an overwhelming amount of love. My sessions are designed to be calm and baby-led, capturing your family just as you are in the warmth of your own home.

There’s no need to worry about posing or a perfectly tidy space; I’ll gently guide you while focusing on authentic moments that reflect this special time in your life. This guide will help you prepare so you can relax and enjoy a beautiful, stress-free experience.

01. PICK THE PERFECT SPOT

For the most natural and heartfelt images, I recommend having your session at home. This is where you and your baby feel most comfortable, allowing for a relaxed and authentic experience. Your home also adds a beautiful personal touch, making your photos even more meaningful.

02. FIND THE BEST TIME

I find that newborn sessions are best suited to the morning, between 9 AM and 12 PM. Over the years, I’ve found that babies are generally more settled during this time, making it the perfect window to capture those sleepy, snuggly moments. Plus, this gives us plenty of time for breaks, feeds, and cuddles as needed.

03. WHAT TO WEAR

For a timeless and soft look, I recommend wearing neutral, light-colored clothing. Whites, creams, soft greys, and pastels photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby. Avoid bold patterns or logos, as they can be distracting.

For your newborn, simple is best; a plain onesie, a muslin swaddle, or even just their delicate skin. I have a selection of wraps and blankets available, but feel free to include any special items you'd love to feature.

04. HOW TO PREPARE

  • Keep it cozy: A warm environment helps keep your baby comfortable and sleepy during the session. If we're at your home, setting the room temperature a little warmer than usual can help.

  • A full tummy is best: Try to feed your baby just before the session begins to keep them content and relaxed. We’ll take breaks whenever needed.

  • Declutter if possible: If shooting at home, a little tidy-up in the main photo areas (like the living room, bedroom, or nursery) can help create a clean, serene backdrop.

  • Relax & enjoy: The best images come from natural interactions, so don’t stress! I’ll gently guide you through poses, but capturing your genuine love and connection is my priority.

05. WHAT TO EXPECT

Newborn sessions are calm and baby-led. I allow plenty of time for feeding, changing, and soothing, so there’s no need to feel rushed. The session typically lasts between 1.5 to 3 hours, ensuring we capture a mix of cozy newborn portraits and natural family moments.

Most of all, this is about celebrating your new little love. My goal is to create images that will bring you joy for years to come.
